Everyone's favourite summer coffee is back! This is a ‘natural processed coffee’ meaning seeds dry with the cherry fruit intact. Kayon uses acacia shade covering for a controlled and even drying process. The resulting cup is balanced and sweet with a heavy mouthfeel. The acidity is beautifully bright like fresh orange juice. The fruit and berry notes are intense with bursts of blackberry, blueberry, raspberry and strawberry. The finish has slightly more chocolate compared to last year but remains big and sweet. Brew it strong, pour it over ice and you will be rewarded with a cup that tastes like sugary pink lemonade. It is best sipped while enjoying a long summer sunset.
Ismel Hassen and his family own and operate Kayon Mountain Farm. It crosses two villages, Taro and Sweana, whose residents traditionally worked in a local mine. Growth of the farm has meant the creation over 25 permanent positions and 300 seasonal jobs with free transportation, financial support for local schools, and much higher wages than those at the mine. Kayon also has numerous environmental mandates, including indigenous tree protection, natural compost fertilization, and highly controlled on-site processing.
